I’m Dr. Mark Swaim, MD, PhD, and I’m a neurosurgeon, with a focus on the study, diagnosis, and treatment of brain aneurysms. My journey to this point in my career began in my childhood in Miami-Dade County in Florida, where I lived with my family. I was 11 years old when my older brother, Eric, passed suddenly and without warning, having suffered a ruptured brain aneurysm while out at the beach with his college friends. Until then, I hadn’t even realized that people his age could suffer from brain aneurysms. Grief-stricken, I then dedicated myself to studying medicine in the hopes that I could help prevent others from this issue.
When not on the clock, I shed myself of being Mark Swaim, MD, PhD, and am just known as Mark among friends and family. Now living in Boston, Massachusetts, with my wife-to-be, Patricia, I have found my path through the medical field. With her help and support of my colleagues and family, I continue to help bring about awareness about the causes, signs, and symptoms, as well as the statistics involving brain aneurysms. In my free time, I run marathons and am an avid urban gardener, and I spend as much time as I can with my loved ones.
